Malton from above Musley Bank

Menethorpe looking towards Low Hutton

Your title

Malton, a bustling market town, is situated beside the River Derwent, some 18 miles from York and 24 miles from Scarborough in North Yorkshire. The settlement dates back to Roman times and boasted a Roman Fort - Derventio. To the north is the flat Vale of Pickering which was Lake Pickering during the Ice Age. To the south and east lie the Yorkshire Wolds and to the north and west are the Howardian Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Malton is in the District of Ryedale, now recognised nationally as one of the best places to live for quality of life. The sections of routes through the towns are, therefore not at all boring or intimidating but an integral part of enjoying the Malton experience.
Malton and Norton are quite compact towns so each walk extends into the countryside, some reahing the nearby villages, each with a charm of its own.
These factors combine to provide a wonderful varied urban and rural landscape and as a consequence, an excellent variety of walks.
